EVE Frontier

00:04:38 Good afternoon, everybody, and welcome back to another edition of Frontier Fridays. I am, of course, your host, CCP Jotun, alive, kicking, breathing, shocking, that may be, considering how yesterday went down. I'm joined, of course, by my two lovely compatriots, my friends, my homies, my brothers in arms.

00:05:04 We really need an airhorn for this introduction. We do need an airhorn for that one. Maybe something like, uh, uh, uh, when the CCP Overload is introduced, but fucking airhorn for good to the king. Oh, of course, of course, of course. Gentlemen, wow, we made it. We made it. What you, the audience, don't know is that yesterday was the big CCP kickoff. We do this at the start of big production cycles.

00:05:32 Get everybody kind of aligned. And then we did some events. Did some after-event events. I want to sleep by 10.30. CCP Goodfellas feeling great. How are you feeling, CCP Overload? Wonderful. I can tell. It's like your fifth cup of coffee. Shoutout, of course, by the way, since it's been brought up already in chat. Shoutout to Tribe Reapers, who sent me this horrifying, horrifying shirt that I'm wearing.

00:06:02 Yes, yes, you're seeing that right. It is every bit the fucking Lovecraftian nightmare that you think it is. Super meta. It's very meta. So, you know how when we're setting up to do these streams, there's an ability to put a crosshair on so we can see the thing. We have the crosshair on right now, don't we? We do. And it's on the stream as well. That's pretty cool. I actually like that a lot. You know, it's an art piece is what it is.

00:06:29 There's a button over there if you want to go grab it real fast while I sit here, press buttons. I don't know how to turn it off. Well, you see the scene there that says grid.png? Yes. That's the one. You're going to click that one real quick. It's over there. There's a little eye next to it. You just go click that bad boy right there. There you go. Look at that. Look at that. What this is, folks, is a statement on the lines that divide us, really. I'm looking at the wrong camera. It was an old must to the...

00:06:56 The crosshair when you're throwing utility in Counter-Strike. Exactly, that's exactly what it is. Really, there's always a crosshair on our backs in this industry. Anyway. Someone wants to know if we can get Jotun's green plushies. Horrifying. Thank you. I want one of those. It's rough, I'll be honest. I had, this is unironically true, when I was scootering into work today.

00:07:24 Which, by the way, hilarious. The biggest man in Reykjavik that rides a scooter, I'm convinced. Scootering into work today. I'm on my, you know, doing my thing. I got my sunglasses on. I'm riding down the street. I'm wearing pink shorts, by the way. You can't, I mean, it looks like my neck is the thing because it kind of matches, which is horrifying. Anyway, thank you.

00:07:45 Aber ich bin in der Arbeit heute. Er ist diein. Ja, was der hell? Are you sure? Are you okay? Jesus Christ! Der Patient Zero. Das ist der Guy bei der Hunde. Ich bin in 10 o'clock. Was er in 10 o'clock war? Was er in 10 o'clock war? Was er in 10 o'clock war? Was er in 10 o'clock war? Was er in 10 o'clock war?

00:08:06 I was writing to work today, and I passed a group of young women who were walking somewhere, and one of them had a bottle of water or something, I assume it was to drink from it, and did a spit take as I rode by. Once she kind of realized what it was, he's not okay. I'm fine. I'm better. Sure. Anyway, someone asked, I do it on purpose to make you walk across the room. I don't, but it is really funny. Okay, gentlemen. Wow. We were really killing these intros.

Cycle 2 und Spieler-Feedback zu Smart Storage Units (SSUs)

00:08:34

00:08:34 We were on such a good streak, too. It's a team effort. Teamwork makes the dream work. Let's talk for a moment about the... So we're now into Cycle 2. Cycle 2 started last week. We are kind of back in action, back in the saddle, doing this thing again. People are out there grinding. They are getting their ships.

00:09:01 We've been able to put some pretty cool video out on socials the last couple days of people just going out and doing things. I always think that's kind of cool. This is not a secret. One of my favorite things about being able to, you know, kind of cloak our ships as GMs is just watching people and seeing what they're up to. You don't know this player. Sometimes I am just watching you all the time. Don't worry, I know where he is all the time. He watches me. It's a real who watches the Watchmen kind of thing. Me. It's the overload.

00:11:01 This game? Yes. If you haven't tried out Cycle 2, you tried Cycle 1 and it was a bit quirky or whatever for you, go check out Cycle 2. Yeah. It's definitely worth it. I think so, or at least I hope so. And people seem to be responding positively. That being said, there are some pain points. Yes. And that's what we're going to be talking about primarily today are some pain points players have expressed to us and I wanted to talk to you guys about them.

00:11:30 You guys know about some of these already, obviously, because we don't do anything except for yap with each other. Smooth, by the way. I saw that little lip curl. I mean, obviously, you know, we are looking for, you know, we have big moments coming, big moments planned, a lot of really, really cool stuff that's in the pipeline that we've talked about over the last couple of weeks.

00:11:54 A lot of stuff that now the teams are getting out of pre-production. They're getting into, you know, they were in the exploration phase. They're coming out of the exploration phase. They're looking at 4-2 production and what that's going to look like for the next, you know, production period. But there are things in the meantime that players have been talking a lot about and they want to hit on. And just not necessarily looking for answers, just looking for some guidance. So let's talk about a couple of those really fast. So the...

00:12:21 First one that we had mentioned was, let's talk a little bit about SSUs. So smart storage units. Su's. Su's. Yeah, not Su. It's Su. Or is it Su? No, it's a unit. Thank you. Thank you. Sorry. Yeah, I get it. So smart storage units right now feel very strange in-game.

00:12:49 Because obviously they have a lot of utility with regards to dApps. They are kind of the platform which most dApps are built off of. But players are feeling some frustration about they don't really interact very well with the industry processes, the manufacturing processes right now. So I guess my question then would be, to leave that to you guys, what is the vision for what you think SSUs should be used for? And what are we...

00:13:16 Was ist das, was wir jetzt nicht machen? Was ist das, was wir jetzt machen? Was ist das, was wir jetzt machen? Was ist das, was wir jetzt machen? So, so, eventually, das sollte be part of a contiguous process, essentially. These are almost individual pillars that sit isolated from each other right now, with very little connection between them. It's important to get the individual things to work before you start building on top of them. Sure. You know, think of these as sort of foundational pieces. Eventually, there'll be things like interconnected stuff, sort of your conveyor belts, and the ability to automatically deliver.

00:13:45 Ich denke, ich habe eine wirklich gute...

00:14:12 Meeting with the good folks working on base building as an experience. And I've mentioned to them before they should do a stream very soon. And right now to maybe make sure you're on common ground. The portable storage right now does not require fuel. Sure. It is thus more convenient to use and it has also better connection in moving around. It is easier to move things around item-wise between portable storages. Yeah, certainly.

Before we move on, because you actually touched on something that I was just about to talk about, which is great, and I appreciate you doing that. Before we get to that segue, somebody in chat did just ask, it looks hot in that room. Funny that you asked that, or funny that you mentioned that chat, because it's actually not true. What has happened instead is CCP overloaded myself, spent a good amount of time to stay at Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Shout out to Blue Lagoon. This is not an advertisement. They certainly don't need the advertisement. They're everywhere.

Du bist so schmuck.

Gruppen-Base-Building und Community-Ziele

00:16:30

00:16:30 Okay, moving ahead. Moving right along. So, next big thing, obviously, was speaking of base building and speaking of, especially portable storage units, one of the biggest kind of sticking points a lot of people have had, and we've heard this a lot, especially a lot from community organizers, you know, tribe leaders, tribe, you know, builders, is this the issue that people are having right now with base building as a group, right? Obviously, right now.

00:16:59 The game is very much geared around you build your base, your own little space in space, and that's it. You just build your one thing. That's a little bit of a departure from what we've been able to do in the past, where before we got to the June release, people were kind of building their stuff all in one area because they didn't need to tie stuff down to network nodes. So there wasn't that need to kind of, you know.

00:17:22 Basically, right now you can only tie your stuff to your stuff. And so what people are asking then is, well, I want to put a group together. I want all of our stuff to kind of be in the same area. Right now they're just kind of limiting to similar solar systems or solar systems that are nearby. So then the question becomes, is there a, looking ahead to the future, is there a future soon where some of these, you know, people will be able to kind of do this in a more communal way or do it in a way that is more interactive with each other? Yes. Yes.

00:18:14 Which is not really the case. The case shouldn't be that our focus on making the individuals who then join tribes in the future, if they're able to enjoy Frontier, making their experience better, shouldn't come at the cost of social aspects. Definitely don't want that. The L-Points is a good first step in terms of having a landscape on the Frontier, but what the space building theme that I'm referencing, I also think about is that how

00:18:43 Can you have common goals? I had a really good conversation with one of the Frontier players, where it felt that even when he was playing with a group, it was just a bunch of individuals together instead of the common goal aspect. And that is kind of the thing, right? There may be an opportunity for people in groups to have different things put at different L points, but it's always going to be, people want to build cities. People want to be able to build their kind of common...

00:19:12 So if you want to put your, there may be a benefit to putting all of your, you know, your trading and your ship storage in one area, your manufacturing another area, your, you know, crude reprocessing another area and not have it all just kind of lumped up on top of each other. You know, so that is, do we have an idea of, you know, just if you were to send out your mind's eye for a moment into the future, do we have any idea what that kind of thing might look like?

00:21:51

00:21:51 I want to touch on another thing, a little bit different than this, but that Aquila just brought up in chat, which I'm glad that they did, because this is something that we've kind of talked about recently, because there was, I think I posted about it in one of the feedback channels about hiding information or information obscurity, right? One of the big talking points is that players, you know, there's a lot of information available currently because everything is on chain, you know, information about where people's stuff is located.

00:22:17 Things people have killed recently, things, players who have been killed recently. And all this information obviously is publicly available in a public ledger. So then the question becomes what, like, and we've talked a lot about pods. We've talked a lot about, like, information obscurity in the past. What, I mean, the question then is obviously going to be where, when we...

00:23:03 better off spending that time doing other things right now and improving other parts of the game so it's a hundred percent an issue we know um we will resolve it um when and there's a timeline for it but before release obviously um there is this concept in mathematics called zero knowledge proofs and things like that like to like have information that you can validate without revealing all the information itself essentially as pods um that kind of stuff will eventually move into that realm so you'll be able to reveal

00:23:31 The kill, reveal your location, if you want, reveal it to one person, a group of people, everyone, or keep it totally private. And you can still, you can do things, for example, like prove that you have a base in a certain region without revealing the location of the base of the person you're proving it to. So all they know is that you say, okay, I live in this region, therefore I get a discounted your store. Here's my proof that I do live there, but the person doesn't know your exact location, your address, just stuff like that. Cool.

00:24:25 Attacking and defending your base becomes more part of the lifecycle. We have decided, like Ovaldo was saying, to not address this yet, both because of the technology is improving and we want to add more things into the game first, because this would stifle creativity otherwise and getting more things into the client, which is better, we deem so, for now. For now, yes.

Ja. Du siehst, es ist wirklich interessant.

00:25:18 um snippets of what this can look like um in i think founder access um one of the filters on the map was um industry activity and it didn't give you any other information other than activity was happening in a particular area and it just gave you kind of like a sheer quantity it didn't give you any like breakdown of that so you could look at the map and see that there was like industry hot spots where like some of the tribes were living because they're constantly manufacturing building stuff and then you would see little

00:25:45 Glimpses around the universe of small groups like working together as well and then way off in the distance like there was a spike of activity suddenly like tons of industry and people looking on the map and like what is this is this a big group that's moved up there or is it one person who's just like turning out stuff so and it was really far across the universe so one of the groups literally sent out scouts to go see what was going on there and it was just one guy like putting in tons and tons of jobs to try and bait people into coming and looking and then grab them when they came which like that sort of

00:26:42

00:26:42 Active and passive detection. Exactly. Okay. Then let's next go to, let's talk about, oh, this is a funny one. So one of the things players don't like is that it is way too easy to disassemble structures right now. Because right now you click a single button and the structure that you've perhaps spent hours assembling will be reduced to nothing. Is there a plan at some point soon to, let's say, mitigate some of that?

00:27:10 Either putting another interface in front of that one, or maybe... So I think Jump, Stargate specifically, is Jump and Dismantler right next to each other. Which first of all is funny. So I think what we might do... We might just make a random thing that just swaps them around every so often, so you click at the right time. No, as a concern, albeit funny, it's happened to me fleeing enemies. I was about to jump through the gate to get away, and then dismantle my gate. I was like, oh...

00:27:38 Das ist ein Problem. Wir können das einfach sein. Ja. Neid.

00:28:07 Um, just, hey, be careful with your clicking. Yeah, be careful. Yeah, but just moving the design sample button. Yeah. Is an easy... That's an easy one. Like, we've spoken about that and that probably will happen. It might move to like the bottom of the list or something like that. Cool. Yeah. Then, are you sure extra? I'm just thinking now for a solution. That's when we start getting into additional dev work and it becomes... Because it's not set up to do that. We have to actually build it. Which, I mean, like I say, we're going to do, but as part of a fully design rather than a side project. Sure.

00:28:35 Obviously, people still, of course, talk about mining and, you know, looking forward to what mining changes might look like. Do you feel like there are larger reworks of mining coming in the not so distant future that might either more utilities for mining with regards to structures that you put down, more variety in the mining lasers themselves, that sort of thing? Is that something that we are...

00:29:00 Mining right now is a prototype on the Frontier. We have not delivered nearly to our full experience. We also wanted to make it more of an active experience. So you are finding big rocks out in space. You need to scan them down to find out what is inside them. I need to blow out the rock in hopes of finding these golden veins. Interesting.

00:29:21 In the rock and harvesting that. So it's not so much just a approach rock, press button, walk away sort of deal. It becomes a kind of a, I hate saying mini game because it's all part of the same game. It's a maxi game. It's an active activity as opposed to a passive activity. Yeah, because right now the mining system essentially is inherited from the standard even online mining system. Point to the laser, add rock, press button, rock appears.

Flott. Flottelt? Ja. Okay, das ist ein Flott, dann. Okay. I'm so sorry. Or you can be super active stripping down a small stream, flyfitting in a river. Gotcha. Gets the big salmon. So it's a... I think the analogy falls apart, though, because when you're doing that in Iceland, there's not, like, potentially...

00:30:40 A massive shark about to eat your legs. That is true. In Frontier, you never know. They're a Greenland shark, they could rub up against you and poison you, I guess. If I've had a Greenland shark in a river, I'd be very surprised. That'd be pretty unfortunate for both you and the shark, I imagine. Okay, last big one. Also shout out to CCP Ermageddon, who wanna know how hungover we are. Not. Totally fine. Fully fine, totally normal, not a single person. I have high body, buddy.

00:31:08 According to my watch. You went to sleep at half past ten, you told us. Yeah? Yeah. The thing is, he's a specimen of a man. I don't know if he's going to survive this week based on the call further on, though. That's true. He's just been spending too much time with poor Sisby Helmar, who every time he travels here, I feel like he picks up some kind of Icelandic superbug. Poor guy. Okay, last big question, obviously, that's on everybody's mind, is...

00:31:35 Obviously, we did an accumulation of grace. Everybody got a lot of grace at the end of last cycle. And then we haven't really put out a whole lot of guidance so far about what's been happening with that grace. Yes, we are converting it. Well, hang on. I'm still on. I'm on the screen where I'm asking questions. I need to get to the end of it. And we'll get to that part. The question then is, one, what's happening with that grace? Okay, we'll get there. Two, when...

00:32:03 EVE points are accumulated, where will people be able to see those? And then three, looking at the current, you know, set of missions, there are obviously a lot of questions about, you know, what, are we doing the same missions again? Are we doing the, like, what is the, what is the intended process for?

00:32:21 um you know missions going into the future so as i go back to the wide camera we are we're sanitizing all the data just now from cycle one yeah obviously um trying to there was some issues with the way grace was being accumulated um with the mission some not firing correctly and so on so forth no shit um trying to things like things like that trying to change the system while it was running is akin to trying to like change the spark plugs of your car while you're driving down the highway it's a lot easier to wait until you park up somewhere

00:32:48 So, once the cycle was closed, take the snapshot of everything, and then we have the full database backup of every action that happened during the cycle. We can essentially validate and check them all, which is being done by our wonderful data analytics team. Indeed. So that we can make sure people get the missions we're supposed to get, remove ones that were erroneously granted, just basically sanitize everything, merge stuff, so some people had multiple.

Enjoy Frontier. Go play it and do as much grace as possible. You will learn Eve Points. It is something that we highly recommend doing.

Also log in in Frontier, spielen die Spiel.

Let's have, für Cycle 2 Ende, Top 10 Leute bekommen Frontier Merch. Okay, wir können das. Oh, wir haben zu bekommen Frontier Merch. Ja, wir können das. Ja, wir haben zu bekommen Frontier Merch. Ja, das ist eine gute Idee.

00:35:47 I can't remember our brand director's CCP dev name.

00:35:53 I hope he's watching right now because he's just had a task land on his desk. Yes. Or probably shivering somewhere. He was already shivering because I threatened to bring him on here when I wasn't sure if you were going to be available. Give the people what they want. We could have all sorts of merch. What kind of merch could we have? Custom Frontier Keyboards? I would love a Custom Frontier Keyboard. Basketball jerseys. Yep. I want a CCP Maximum Castle of Boo Boo. That's what I...

00:36:20 Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Welcome to 2025, good fella. You should go check out... They are just Beanie Babies. Yeah, basically. But for the Gen Zs. Yeah. One of our engineers has one on her desk, I believe. Yes. I don't remember what her dev name is. Yeah, that seems to be Grogu.

00:36:40 Grogu, ja, du solltest auf den Grogu. Ich will das gut für Lala-Boo-Boo. No, du bist.

00:37:08 uh love that not at all a huge deal when i my band there was no stream let's try it uh it was about 50 minutes of stream where i started streaming yeah i know i started the stream uh i i put a an image of you and uh ccp i made fun of ccp overload's accent for a good 10 seconds and then the stream basically immediately the bed

00:37:32 Uh, just, my bandwidth dropped to, I was dropping like 30% of my frames. Do you know what the saying is? What's that? Thomas a bitch. Yep. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Okay. And also, speaking of accents, before we went live, this guy trying desperately to do a Scottish accent and just coming out to some weird Australian. It's hard. I was trying to do the, the, the, hocus pocus, there's, see? Fuck you. Fuck you. It's hard. Hocus pocus, there's pizza.

00:38:02 Pizza. Focus. It's not an easy action to do. Okay, smartass. It's not easy, okay? It's a difficult action to do. I can do like 15 accents from the US, but I can't do one from a country that has five people in it. Jesus. Anyway, alright, team.

00:38:24 People in chat saying, sounds like a good Aussie accent, yeah. Thank you, Akula. Thank you for the support. Can you do an Aussie accent, then? Maybe that's Scottish, yeah. I cannot do an Aussie accent. If I attempt an Aussie accent, a single convict is gonna break in here and strangle me to death. For insulting his culture. I can say, like, ah, put another shrimp on the barbie there, mate. Don't do that! Jesus. Fuck you. Okay, we're done. This is a really bad stream.

00:38:52 uh listen gang thank you so much for watching us for watching this stream watching us on this stream uh apologies for having to apologies for having to watch this stream uh stay tuned here in a few minutes we'll be doing uh live the feed with eve uh the ccp community team i'll be playing you online and cbb has some wild stuff cooking up for us this week so check that out uh we'll be back in action next friday i'll probably be doing a play stream then where you can maybe we'll do like a not first steps but maybe next steps kind of stream

00:39:45 I know one person in the heart of work, CCP Armageddon in chat, clearly not working. CCP Armageddon, wow, listen, she is on that grind right now. Shout out. Shout out to CCP Armageddon, always the truest homie there ever was, on that grind in chat. CCP Armageddon, my beloved, shout out. But yes, thank you so much, guys. We'll be back next week. And until then, we'll see you on the Frontier. It's not quite the same without the... Anyway, goodbye, everybody.
